Hi there, I’m Peter.

I used to work at Apple, where I helped make phone calls and FaceTime calls work in iOS. More recently I’ve been working at Google - on a few things - Chrome, Assistant, and Maps.

I have a 5-year old with ASD, which brings some pretty big challenges to our family, and I’ve often been thinking about what my background in making software could bring to him and our parenting to make things a little bit smoother. For a long time I’ve played with little experiments here and there but never shown anyone else.

In January I was one of the 6% of Googlers who were laid off. Ouch 😵.

So - I want to make something good come of that bad experience. I started work on a very simple project that became Kokua Steps, and set a goal of actually getting it out into the world this time. I made this space, Kokua.kids, to explain and share the app and what my goals were, and I sincerely hope it finds use with families who might have similar struggles motivating their little-ones.

Steps is going to be in the App Store soon, it’ll be free at least to start.

After that, well, I don’t know where this journey goes, I’d like to build much more; but at least if you’re reading this now, you’re with me at step one.

Thank you, and I’d love to hear from you by email if you have any comments or questions!
